New ArtWall Exhibit by Local School
TRAHC’s ArtWall’s newest exhibit is “Diving Deep” by the first grade class at Pleasant Grove Elementary School.
Guided by art teacher, Rachel Begoon, first grade students selected the ocean for the subject of their first ArtWall experience. Students looked at all types of ocean life. By discussing occupations relating to the sea and working with animals, students made curriculum connections to science and social studies. In their general education classroom students have studied living and non-living things, food chains, and the life cycle of a fish.
During this school year, the students had multiple opportunities to express themselves using paint. The ArtWall gave these first grade artists the chance to work large scale for the first time. This process worked well because students had been working with filling the space in a visual composition during their art class. Prior to beginning the painting process, the art teacher talked about color, line, shape, texture and contrast. Students learned the painting technique of layering one color over another as they painted their panels. This exhibit contains both realistic and abstract imagery of marine animals.
This ArtWall was created in partnership with TRAHC’s Education Department and will be on display till May 15.
