DESCRIPTION:We are excited to hold “Judy McKinney Day” in the Mayo Arts MakerSpace to celebrate the life and impact of local arts educator Judy McKinney. On Saturday\, May 16 from 10 AM – 5 PM\, the community and all who loved Judy are invited to create art in her honor. \nAs a lifelong artist and arts educator\, Judy McKinney inspired generations of students and future artists through her private studio\, Studio 2211\, St. James\, and other local schools. After her passing in February 2026\, TRAHC received multiple memorial gifts in her honor to support her passion\, arts education in Texarkana. \nNormal daily rates for the Mayo MakerSpace are $10 per participant\, but in honor and celebration of Ms. McKinney\, the daily rates are waived for all participants on this designated date. \n  \nAbout the Mayo MakerSpace\nTRAHC’s Mayo Furniture Arts MakerSpace is an exploratory studio experience designed for artists/makers of all ages and skill levels located in TRAHC’s ArtSpace at 518 Pine. DESCRIPTION:This 2-part class\, led by instructor and master potter John Delafield\, will guide students on an introduction to wheel throwing\, including wedging\, pulling/lifting\, creating handles\, centering\, and glazing. This class will meet on two Thursday afternoons in June: \n\nThursday 6/18\nThursday 6/25\n\nMeeting times are 3-5pm each day that class meets. Students are also encouraged to wear clothes that are suitable for working with clay. The Visual Arts Director will coordinate with students once all pieces are bisque fired to glaze their pieces.  \nThis class is $160 and materials and clay/materials/tools are provided by the artist and TRAHC. DESCRIPTION:Glass artist Kathy Madison (A Glass Act Creations)\, along with her daughter Rachael\, will guide students in designing and completing a 5″ x 7″ hanging bluebonnet sun catcher! 💙 \nThis class will meet Sunday\, June 28 from 1-4pm in the Calhoun Studio at TRAHC’s ArtSpace (518 Pine Street\, Texarkana\, TX 75501). \nDuring this class\, students will work with Kathy on the design of their art piece\, but the finishing steps of the project will be completed/fired by the instructor. The three designs on the cover image are examples of what students may make during the class. Each piece will also have a glass strip at the top with a chain for hanging on a wall or window. \nRegister \nStudents are expected to return to the ArtSpace for pickup upon notification. Items will be available for pickup 4-5 days after the class. Materials\, tools\, and safety gear are provided by the artist and TRAHC. Tuition is nonrefundable unless less than 9 individuals register. This course is open to individuals 10+; however\, individuals under 16 must have a parent accompany them. \nIndividuals are encouraged to register at least one week before the class\, so the artist has time to prepare an appropriate amount of materials.
